Horizons of Hope: A Toolkit for Catholic Parishes on Palliative Care: When confronted with a life-limiting diagnosis, we can find ourselves in an unfamiliar and even frightening situation. These moments are usually marked by having to make numerous practical decisions surrounding care and support for loved ones and ourselves. More often than not, such decisions require moral discernment through the lens of our faith. We believe in the dignity and sacredness of human life at all stages, from conception to natural death. At the same time, our faith does not demand that life is to be sustained at all costs. As Catholics, our faith in Jesus Christ has much to teach us about living and dying well.

 

* For those who have experienced the death of a child: “From Mourning to Dawn” for Bereaved Parents is an eight-week grief support program in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon for those who are grieving the death of a child at any age — from pregnancy through to adulthood. * Millennium Cross Pilgrimage:  Join in prayer, reflection and community at the 24th annual Millennium Cross Pilgrimage 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13. The pilgrimage cross is a beloved local landmark that has lit up the night sky for the past 25 years, standing as a 100-foot beacon of hope and faith, located 10 kilometres northeast of Aberdeen, SK, on Highway 41. The sacred site proudly acknowledges its place on Treaty 6 territory, on land donated by the Bayda family, serving as a place of pilgrimage prayer and healing for all dedicated to the sanctity of human life at every stage. The pilgrimage begins at 3 p.m. with a Living Rosary, offered with the intention of building a culture of life. The 2026 keynote address will be presented by Fr. Bassim Shoni of Sacred Heart Chaldean Catholic Church in Saskatoon. * An Indigenous Pastoral and Lay Leader Ministry Education Program (IPL) online course from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon presents the next session “Introduction to Reconciliation” beginning Sept. 15 for all those interested in deepening their understanding of the history of Indigenous Peoples and the Catholic Church as a response to the TRC Calls to Action. To help you offer meaningful support, the Catholic Health Association of Saskatchewan (CHAS) has released a new brochure: “Accompaniment Through Serious Illness: A Guide to Conversations on Death and Dying.” This guide provides practical tools for navigating these sacred conversations with grace. Donations needed: The emergency food pantry at Our Lady of Guadalupe Indigenous Catholic Parish in Saskatoon is appealing for donations to assist some of the most vulnerable in our community. Donations of food staples are greatly needed, including powdered milk, peanut butter (small sizes preferred), coffee, tea, canned beans, meat and fish, canned soups and vegetables, pasta sauce, pasta, rice, and ramen noodles. Hospital Volunteer Opportunity: St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon relies on volunteers to help nurture a welcoming experience by assisting patients, families, and visitors in navigating the hospital and understanding parking procedures. Responsibilities include initiating contact with members of the public, including at-risk individuals, helping to navigate the building and pointing out resources.  In-depth orientation and on-going support is provided. Those interested can contact volunteers@saskhealthauthority.ca for information.

 

Scam Alert – Fraudulent messages continue to circulate via e-mail, as well as via text and message apps, allegedly coming from our priests, bishop, or others in the Catholic community, asking for money, gift cards, or other gifts. DISREGARD all such messages! Do NOT reply or engage with the individuals sending these messages. Do NOT send gift cards, money, or cash transfers if requested to do so over e-mail or via text message.
