Deacon Luke Tran Van Tam continues his journey toward the priesthood.

Deacon Luke Tran Van Tam is a seminarian for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon, studying at Christ the King Seminary in Mission, British Columbia, and in 2023-24 undertaking a pastoral internship at St. Mary Parish in Saskatoon.

He was ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacons by Bishop Mark Hagemoen on April 19, 2024 at St. Mary Parish, Saskatoon (LINK to News Article). Deacon Luke will be ordained to the priesthood in a celebration on the Feast of St. Luke, Friday, Oct. 18, 2024 at the Cathedral of the Holy Family in Saskatoon, beginning at 7 p.m. and live-streamed at saskatoonmass.com.

Br. Raphael (Gregory) Parsons of Wadena, SK, Carmelite monastery in Wyoming

Gregory Parsons from St. Mary Parish in Wadena recently joined the Carmelite Monks  at Cody, Wyoming, USA. He was clothed as a novice in the spring of 2019, taking the name Brother Raphael. Brother Raphael made his Perpetual Vows on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024.

The Monks of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel is a monastic, cloistered Roman Catholic community founded in the Rocky Mountains of northwestern Wyoming near Yellowstone National Park. The website at www.carmelitemonks.org states: “In the solitude and silence of the mountain wilderness, the Carmelite monks of Wyoming seek to perpetuate the charism of the Blessed Virgin Mary by living the hidden Marian life in vows to the primitive Carmelite Rule and monastic observance for Carmelite men.”

Kaitlyn Deck from St. Peter Parish in Unity, SK began a period of formation with the Queenship of Mary Community in Ottawa, Ontario. She made first vows with the community in June 2022 as Sr. Therese Handmaid of the Lord.

Brother Denys (Robert) Janiga of Toronto, ON, professed temporary vows at St. Peter’s Abbey in Saskatchewan, but has now transferred to St. John’s Abbey in the USA.

Br. Denys (Robert) Janiga from the Toronto area professed temporary vows with the Order of Saint Benedict at St. Peter’s Abbey in Muenster, SK,  on July 10, 2021. He continues studies in theology at St. John’s Abbey in the U.S., where he has now transferred his membership in the order.

Founded in 1903, St. Peter’s Abbey is the oldest Benedictine monastery in Canada. The abbey website at stpetersabbey.ca states: “Our Roman Catholic lifestyle of prayer and service is inspired by our Christian mission. Our community lives by the Rule of St. Benedict – a rule which has guided Christian communities for more than 1,500 years. St. Benedict’s monks live a life which is inspired by ancient wisdom and is always open to the signs of the times today.”

George Leberio
, originally from Prince Albert and a former member of Saint Anne Parish in Saskatoon, recently joined the Companions of the Cross in Ottawa, spending the first year of formation at Assumption Farm in Combermere, Ontario. He renewed his vows in August 2023, and continues his studies and his discernment of priesthood.
