* World Day of Migrants and Refugees – Sept. 27 On September 27, we pause to remember migrants and refugees around the world and to recognize the courage, sacrifice, hope, and faith that accompany every journey. As followers of Christ, we are called to welcome the stranger, protect human dignity, and walk in solidarity with those seeking safety, belonging, and a new beginning. “I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” – Matthew 25:35. May our communities always be places of compassion, hospitality, and hope. “Even just one of these children” is the theme of Pope Leo XIV’s Message for the 112th World Day of Migrants and Refugees 2026. In his Message, the Holy Father draws attention to the plight of the many children and adolescents who are among those forced to flee their homeland due to war, poverty, violence, environmental disasters, and other tragedies – a number that continues to rise dramatically. In the context of migration, it is precisely children and adolescents who are the most vulnerable. * Bishop’s Annual Appeal 2026 – Parishes across the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon have launched the Bishop’s Annual Appeal starting the weekend of Sept. 26-27, encouraging parishioners to support a range of vital ministries and programs in the diocese and beyond. * Pilgrimage to the Shrine of the Little Flower in Wakaw – Participants and staff of St. Therese Institute of Faith and Mission in Bruno will again travel to the National Shrine of the Little Flower, on Thursday, Oct. 1, the Feast Day of our Patron, St. Thérèse of Lisieux. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us, beginning with Mass celebrated at 10:30am, with celebrations and prayers happening until 3:30pm, all at St. Theresa Parish, 314 Main St, Wakaw, SK.

Young Catholic men are also invited to join a walking pilgrimage from Bruno to Wakaw, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 29, with overnight camping Sept. 29 and 30 enroute to Wakaw for the Oct. 1 Little Flower Feast Day celebrations. This is an opportunity to experience Catholic brotherhood and a chance to retreat with the Lord for a few days. * Time Out for Moms is a Catholic faith enrichment and fellowship group in the diocese of Saskatoon, with mothers gathering to enjoy a light breakfast and listen to speakers at the Cathedral of the Holy Family, 123 Nelson Road, Saskatoon, from 9:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Tuesday mornings, starting Oct. 6. Childcare is available with volunteer caregivers.  “One in Christ, united in mission” – World Mission Sunday Oct. 18: This year marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of World Mission Sunday. For 100 years, this day has been a day for prayer, reflection, and practical contributions to the Church’s mission of evangelization, especially in areas where the proclamation of the Gospel is only just beginning and where the Church faces challenges. This global effort directly sustains 1,124 mission territories where the Church is young, vulnerable, or facing persecution. It’s time to be thinking of “Tourtières” (traditional meat pies) at Saints-Martyrs-Canadiens Parish in Saskatoon, which is again planning its fall fund-raiser, taking orders for Tourtières, $20 each. “No Options, No Choice” Campaign against expansion of assisted suicide / euthanasia:  The Christian Medical and Dental Association of Canada (CMDA) wants to hear from Saskatchewan patients, families and healthcare professionals about their experiences with medically-provided death, known as “MAiD.” Ways to be involved:

  1. Share Your Story: Have you or someone you know had a concerning or difficult experience with MAiD (medically-provided euthanasia) in Saskatchewan? Join St. Mary’s Mission & Outreach This Winter – For the fourth year, St. Mary Parish Hall will serve as a winter warm-up location, offering shelter, warmth and dignity to people experiencing homelessness — and we invite people from across the entire diocese to join us. This past winter we had over 15,000 check-ins and expect numbers to rise this year. There is a place for everyone to help! Behind-the-scenes volunteer opportunities are available for people of all ages, while those volunteering directly with guests inside the warm-up location must be 18 years of age or older. Volunteer training will begin in October, with dates and further information will be coming very soon. In the meantime, please e-mail Jennifer Nunes at jnunes@rcdos.ca to add your name to our volunteer list and receive future updates. We also invite individuals, families, parishes and community groups to begin setting aside blankets, jackets and winter gear to help care for those who will seek shelter in St. Mary’s Parish Hall this winter. * A Season of Creation series will be held 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 28, and Oct. 5 in the welcome area at St. Philip Neri Parish, 1902 Munroe Ave, Saskatoon. Anchor is a prayer group that turns to God with gratitude and hope to carry us through the ripples and waves of daily life when journeying with chronic illness. Hospital Volunteer Opportunity: St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon relies on volunteers to help nurture a welcoming experience by assisting patients, families, and visitors in navigating the hospital and understanding parking procedures. Responsibilities include initiating contact with members of the public, including at-risk individuals, helping to navigate the building and pointing out resources.  In-depth orientation and on-going support is provided.
