World Day of Consecrated Life
February 2 @ 12:15 pm – 1:30 pm
Each year, on the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple – also known as ‘Candlemas’ – the Church celebrates the World Day for Consecrated Life, offering a space to recognize the gift of consecrated life and the many ways it enriches the life and mission of the Church across the world. A celebration will take place in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon with Mass at 12:15 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2, at the Cathedral of the Holy Family, followed by a light lunch (Mass will also be live-streamed at https://saskatoonmass.com.).
Please pray for all those who have made commitments in the consecrated life, and thank them on their special day. May they continue to be inspired by Jesus Christ and respond generously to God’s gift of their vocation. The blessing of the candles remind us and renew in each of us the vows of our baptism to be the light in the world.
St. John Paul II urged consecrated persons to ‘be true experts of communion and to practice the spirituality of communion” (Vita consecrata, n. 46). Pope Francis, drawing inspiration from St. Francis, founder and inspirer of so many institutes of consecrated life, broadens the perspective and invites us to be architects of universal brotherhood, custodians of the common home: of the earth and every creature…(Letter from CICSAL, 2021) In a radical and courageous way women and men who consecrate their lives entirely to Christ show to the world a glimpse of the life of heaven to come and the joy of the vision of God.
