Start of new IPL online course in diocese of Saskatoon: “Indigenous Settler Relations” – Indigenous Pastoral & Lay Leader Ministry Education Program

Indigenous Pastoral & Lay Leader Ministry Education Program (IPL) is an online program offered by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon in response to the TRC Calls to Action, led by teams of Indigenous and non-Indigenous instructors modelling respectful and reconciling relationships.
The next online IPL series of four courses will begin in April 2026, held on Tuesday afternoons, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm SK time April 14 to June 9, wow6

- Introduction to Reconciliation – Sept. 15 to Nov. 10, 2026 ($200)
- Introduction to Contemporary Effects of Colonization I: Social Justice – Jan. 5, 2027 to March 2, 2027 ($200)
- Introduction to Indigenous Studies – POSTPONED: new date to be announced
Participants can register for a single course or more – but those who complete four courses will earn a certificate. No prerequisite is required for any of the courses. Each course is 18 hours, including an out-of-class time commitment to additional reading and course work.
The Indigenous Pastoral & Lay Leader Ministry Education Program includes:
- An overview of the features of Indigenous peoples in western Canada, with specific reference to the Saskatchewan context.
- An overview of the history and features of contact and relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples with specific reference to the Roman Catholic Church experience.
- Creation of a dialogue between Indigenous and Christian world views.
- Insight into the history that has shaped the complex nature of the relationships in the present day.
- An opportunity for mutual sharing and hope in a respectful and harmonious future as children of God.
