St. Philip Refugee Committee Annual Plant Sale – Deadline to order May 10
St. Philip Neri Annual Plant Sale in support of refugee sponsorship will be held Saturday, May 13. Tomato, pepper, herb and lettuce plants must be ordered ahead of time by contacting Sheila Flory at (306) 931-8053 or e-mail sheila.flory@usask.ca. Deadline to order is May 10.
Some varieties are limited so order early:
- Tomatoes: Lemon Boy (yellow slicer, low acid), Defiant (red slicer, late blight resistant), Primo Red (red slicer, good flavor), Supremo (roma type for sauces and canning), Vilma (small plants for pots with small tomatoes), SuperSweet 100 (cherry size fruit, larger plants, sweet), Tumbler (plants are recommended for hanging baskets with cherry size red fruit).
- Peppers: El Jefe (jalapeno type: medium hot), Red Knight (sweet bell pepper), Long Red Cayenne (long thin pepper: hot)
- Herbs: Basil, Oregano, Lavender, Thyme
- Lettuce: Cos or Romaine
Tomatoes, peppers and herbs are in 5-inch pots and are $6/each or four for $20. Lettuce plants will be smaller transplants in flats of 4 plants, and are $5/flat (4 plants).
Pre-payment can be made by e-transfer to Sheila.flory@usask.ca or payment can be at the time of pick-up: cash or cheque only (cheques made out to ‘St. Philip Neri Refugee Fund’).
Pick-up times will be scheduled for Saturday, May 13 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 1902 Munroe Avenue South (at Taylor Street), Saskatoon.
