Rite of Election

The diocesan Rite of Election will be celebrated by Bishop Mark Hagemoen in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon at 3 p.m. on Feb. 18, the First Sunday of Lent 2024, at the Cathedral of the Holy Family, 123 Nelson Road in Saskatoon.
Catechumens from across the diocese journeying toward Baptism at Easter will be blessed and will sign the Book of the Elect as part of this step in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. With this celebration, the newly-Elect will begin a time of “purification and enlightenment” in preparation for receiving the initiation sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.
Candidates who are already baptized and who are preparing to be received into full communion in the Catholic Church during the Easter season will also receive a special blessing from the bishop at this celebration.
