Online event: “Becoming a Trauma Informed Church”

February 18, 2023 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
A zoom event on “Becoming a Trauma Informed Church” will be held from 10:30 a.m. to noon (SK time) on Saturday, Feb. 18.
Non-profits would tell you that many of the survivors of sex trafficking that they work with, will return to “the life” because they can’t find decent employment and they don’t have a community to be part of.   In order for a church to be that Jesus led, healing community, they need to be trauma informed.
Keynote is Pete Singer, who is the executive director of GRACE (Godly Response to Abuse in the Christian Environment) who will speak on the SIX principles of what makes a church feel safe and be a healing community for anyone who has been a victim of abuse.  Mr. Singer trains and writes regarding trauma-informed practice and staff support in faith, legal, education, healthcare, advocacy, and other fields. While this event will focus on being a healing community for victims of sexual violence, what you will learn could apply to many different situations, like working with a victim of domestic violence, someone who has been in prison, etc.
Panel speakers include men and women who are leaders in working with victims of sex trafficking and at-risk youth, They will share examples of trauma implementation, meaning they will provide examples of how they worked with people who have been traumatized. This event will go from theory to real life examples so that you and/or your church will come away feeling better equipped to be a healing community for those who have suffered trauma or abuse.
