Featured Ministry – BAA Update
* The Migration Office is building hope, thanks to your gifts to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal. As a government-approved Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH), the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon continues to respond with compassion and urgency to the global refugee crisis. In 2025, the diocesan Migration Office received over 200 refugee sponsorship requests from individuals and families fleeing war, violence, and persecution. Due to limited resources (and the government allocation of spots), we were able to support 30 sponsorships, offering life-changing support to newcomers from countries such as Afghanistan, Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Syria. Your gifts to the Bishop’s Annual Appeal are directly impacting the lives of displaced people by enabling the Migration Office to facilitate sponsorship, assist parish constituent groups, provide settlement assistance, and walk alongside refugees on their journey toward safety and stability. Thanks to your generosity:
- 30 refugees were welcomed into our community, including individuals and family groups.
- Newcomers found safe homes, access to essential services, and the dignity of belonging.
- Volunteers and staff offered personalized support, grounded in our shared faith and commitment to human dignity.
The Migration Office currently works with the following Saskatoon parishes to sponsor refugees fleeing war, violence and persecution: the Cathedral of the Holy Family, Holy Spirit, Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Francis Xavier, Saint Anne, St. Paul Co- Cathedral, St. Philip Neri, and Saints-Martyrs-Canadiens. For more information about refugee sponsorship or how you can get involved, contact the diocesan Migration Office at migration@rcdos.ca. Contributions to the Appeal enable the diocesan Office of Migration to work with community partners and parishes to answer the Gospel call of compassion: “I was a stranger, and you welcomed me.” – Matthew 25:35. How to give: online at: https://dscf.ca/baa or through your local parish, or contact the Bishop’s Annual Appeal at the Diocese of Saskatoon Catholic Foundation, 123 Nelson Road, Saskatoon, SK, S7S 1H1; admin@dscf.ca or call (306) 659-5851.

Season of Creation Sept. 1 to Oct. 4: “Peace With Creation” – The season of Creation, a time of prayer, reflection and action, is marked each year from Sept. 1 (World Day of Prayer for Creation) to Oct. 4 (Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of the environment). Find resources, information, prayers, etc. on the Season of Creation website: https://seasonofcreation.org/ The Biblical text for this year’s celebration is Isaiah 32:14-18 in which the prophet Isaiah pictured the desolated creation without peace because of the lack of justice and the broken relationship between God and humankind. This description of devastated cities and wastelands eloquently stresses the fact that human destructive behaviours have a negative impact on the Earth. Creation will find peace when justice is restored, says the prophet. There is still hope and the expectation for a peaceful Earth. To hope in a biblical context does not mean to stand still and quiet, but to act, pray, change, and reconcile with creation and the Creator in unity, metanoia (repentance), and solidarity.
