Pastoral Letter from Bishop Mark Hagemoen - "Be Joyful in Hope" - Catholic Education Week May 6-13, 2018

The Catholic education tradition has developed in distinct ways in our diocese and throughout Saskatchewan. There are several features which are noteable, which include:

  • Excellence of vision in terms of the education of the whole person in the context of the community of family, faith community, and larger civic community;
  • A strong, vigourous, and inspiring Catholic-Christian identity and mission;
  • A commitment to building positive working relationships with other faith-based communities
  • A commitment to building a positive working relationship with the Minister of Education and the Province of Saskatchewan in order to achieve improving educational outcomes;
  • A commitment to building strong partnerships of support for our indigenous students and their families;

The provision of quality education is arguably one of the greatest factors that contributes to the quality of life of people. Such ‘quality’ also has a significant impact on helping young people be ‘all that God made them to be’, and to assist them in becoming joy-filled contributors who build and help our communities in so many ways!

This message is an occasion to also recognize our teachers. They are a very significant reason for the flourishing of our schools, and they need our ongoing support and prayer

During this time when we pray for and thank our God for all gifts, we are thankful for our Catholic School system, and continue to pray and work towards its ongoing growth and success.

Sincerely in Christ,

Most Reverend Mark A. Hagemoen

Bishop of Saskatoon
