SUMMARY:Domestic Violence presentation
DESCRIPTION:Domestic Violence Speaker – Did you know that Saskatchewan has the highest rate of police calls for domestic abuse of all the provinces\, at twice the national average? \n\n\n\nMark your calendars for 7 p.m. Monday\, March 10\, to hear guest speaker Joan McDonald speak to the Catholic Women’s League at St. John Bosco Church\, 1202 Avenue O South\, Saskatoon about the prevalence and dangers of domestic abuse. \n\n\n\nJoan McDonald is a wife\, mother and grandmother who recently retired from her administrative career with the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Her daughter\, Abbie Speir\, was a victim of domestic homicide in April 2017. Invested in changing that story for others\, Joan began speaking to workplaces\, schools and community groups and events. Her mission is to raise awareness about domestic abuse and provide education about resources that are available to assist victims. Breaking the silence and arming ourselves with simple information will change and save lives. Everyone is welcome. Admission is free but the CWL council is encouraging donations of a personal care items which will be donated to a women’s shelter (shampoo\, soap\, lotion\, etc).

SUMMARY:Contemplative Mass
DESCRIPTION:Contemplative Mass with Fr. Kevin McGee will be held 5 p.m. Friday\, March 7 at St. Mary Catholic Church\, 211 Ave. O South\, Saskatoon. The rhythm of the Contemplative Mass is a gentle\, steady flow\, marked by 20 minutes of silence after communion\, designated to allow space for reflection and recognition of the intimate presence of Christ who comes to us through scripture and the Eucharist. Silence in this form of worship can feel uncomfortable or awkward\, especially when experienced for the first time. Relax and rest in the abiding presence of God.

SUMMARY:World Day of the Sick
DESCRIPTION:CCCB Resources for World Day of the Sick Feb. 11: \n\n\n\nMedia Release from Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) \n\n\n\nEarlier this year\, the Vatican published Pope Francis’ message for the 33rd World Day of the Sick\, which is celebrated each year on Feb. 11. \n\n\n\nIn his message\, Pope Francis offers a reflection on the theme\, “‘Hope does not disappoint’ (Rm 5:5) but strengthens us in times of trial\,” emphasizing the profound role the Christian tradition accords to the theological virtue of hope in moments of illness and suffering. \n\n\n\nPope Francis reminds the faithful that physical illness can have emotional and spiritual effects. The Holy Father calls for our renewed commitment to caring for the sick with love\, compassion\, and faith\, recognizing that hope is a gift that sustains both those who suffer and those who accompany them. \n\n\n\nJesus earnestly calls us to visit and care for the sick (Matthew 25: 35)\, teaching us by example through His solicitude for the sick and His miracles to free men and women from sickness. \n\n\n\nInspired by our Lord\, the Church desires the faithful to contribute to building a culture of care wherever we live—one that responds to the dignity of each person from conception to natural death\, and that offers spiritual support in times of trial. \n\n\n\nEstablished by Pope Saint John Paul II in 1992\, the World Day of the Sick is observed annually on the liturgical Memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes\, a significant day of devotion to the Blessed Mother\, who is a powerful intercessor for the sick. \n\n\n\nIn a particular way on this day\, the faithful are invited to reflect more deeply on the Church’s teachings about sickness and caring for the sick\, as well as to express solidarity with the sick through works of charity and special prayers\, including the option of attending Mass\, and by encouraging and expressing appreciation toward caregivers. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCCCB resources for World Day of the Sick 2025 are available at LINK   and include; \n\n\n\n\nPastoral Suggestions for Families and Parishes – PDF\n\n\n\nWDS 2025 Prayer Card – PDF\n\n\n\n\n-30-

SUMMARY:Contemplative Mass
DESCRIPTION:Contemplative Mass with Fr. Kevin McGee will be held at 5 p.m. on First Friday\, Feb. 7 at Saint Mary Catholic Church\, 211 Avenue O South\, Saskatoon. \n\n\n\nThe rhythm of the Contemplative Mass is a gentle\, steady flow\, marked by 20 minutes of silence after Communion. It is designated to allow space for reflection and recognition of the intimate presence of Christ who comes to us through scripture and the Eucharist. Silence in this form of worship can feel uncomfortable or awkward\, especially when experienced for the first time. We encourage you to relax and rest in the abiding presence of God.
