Week of Prayer for Christian Unity - De Margerie Lecture at STM

 "Surprised by Unity - Finding oneness in ways we hadn't planned" is the title of the 2018 De Margerie Lecture, presented by visiting guest speaker Rev. Dr. Susan Durber at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2018 at St. Thomas More College auditorium, 1437 College Drive, Saskatoon. Everyone is welcome

The evening presentation during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is part of the third annual De Margerie Series on Christian Reconciliation and Unity, sponsored by STM, the Prairie Centre for Ecumenism and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon, and named in honour of the work of local ecumenical pioneer Father Bernard de Margerie. The series also includes two 9:30 a.m. public workshops with visiting guest speaker Rev. Dr. Susan Durber - one on Friday, Jan. 26 and the other on Saturday, Jan. 27 -- both held at the Cathedral of the Holy Family, 123 Nelson Road Saskatoon. Everyone is welcome.

Rev. Dr. Susan Durber is a member of the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches, as well as Theology Co-ordinator for Christian Aid in the United Kingdom, and a minister of the United Reformed Church. She has served in local churches and as a theological educator, most recently at Westminster College in Cambridge.Her most recent book is a collection of reflections and prayers on the parables of Jesus (‘Surprised by Grace’), and she is the author of ‘Preaching like a Woman’ (2007). She is passionate about living a life of prayer, thinking and action for justice in God’s world, with all of Christ’s church.

  • Thursday, Jan. 25: 7:00 a.m. morning service at St. George’s Anglican Church, 624 Avenue I South.
  • Thursday, Jan. 25: 12:00 p.m. noon service and 12:30 p.m. luncheon at Queen’s House, 601 Taylor St. West.
  • Thursday, Jan. 25: De Margerie Lecture at 7:30 p.m.: “Surprised by Unity - Finding oneness in ways we hadn’t planned” with Rev. Dr. Susan Durber, held at St. Thomas More College, 1437 College Drive.
  • Friday, Jan. 26: 7:00 a.m. morning service at Augustana Lutheran Church, 1201 Broadway Avenue.
  • Friday, Jan. 26: 9:30 a.m. public workshop on "Being male and female together in the image of God: where are we on ecumenism, the church and gender" with Rev. Dr. Susan Durber at Cathedral of Holy Family 123 Nelson Road.
