STM Mass marks canonization of St. John Henry Newman

October 15 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Canonization of Cardinal John Henry Newman will be celebrated in Rome on Oct. 13. In Saskatoon there will be a special Mass with Bishop Mark Hagemoen to mark this historic event at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15 at St. Thomas More College Chapel, U of S, 1437 College Drive, Saskatoon. Cardinal Newman was an English poet, essayist, scholar and theologian who became Catholic in 1845. He was named a cardinal in 1879 by Pope Leo XIII. He worked to establish a Catholic University in Dublin, Ireland and his work The Idea of a University  still influences higher education today. He worked to establish centres for Catholic students on university campuses. St. Thomas More College’s own Newman Centre, founded in 1926 on the University of Saskatchewan campus in 1926, follows this tradition.
