The Rite of Election will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2019 at the Cathedral of the Holy Family, 123 Nelson Road, Saskatoon: everyone is welcome to this diocesan celebration, with Bishop Mark Hagemoen presiding.
This year, the Rite of Election will again include celebration of Mass.
The Rite of Election is a step in the RCIA process – the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults – involving those in our diocese who are journeying toward baptism at the Easter Vigil. Bishop Mark Hagemoen will bless the catechumens as they enroll their names in the Book of the Elect and begin a Lenten journey of purification and enlightenment.
“This step is called election because the acceptance made by the Church is founded on the election of God, in whose name the Church acts.” – RCIA 119
There will also be a blessing of the candidates – those who are already baptized, journeying to full membership in the Catholic Church.
Lent is a season of purification and enlightenment for those preparing for baptism – a journey that the entire Church shares, as we prepare to renew our own baptismal promises at Easter.
Everyone is welcome to attend this joyful diocesan celebration!
