Help serve more meals to students. Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools (GSCS) provides nutrition support to 24 urban and rural schools.
A healthy body is critical for a healthy mind. Stats as of 2022-23 include a total of 569,695 meals served, including some 133,000 breakfasts, 220,000 lunches, and 236,000 snacks. GSCS spends over $700,000 a year feeding students. After gratefully receiving $130,000 from Nutrien, $20,000 from a private donor, and $65,000 from a provincial nutrition grant, GSCS pays $500,000 from its education budget.
With inflation costs affecting the price of food, to keep the program running, an increase in expense of $50,000 has been needed every year, due to the the number of families experiencing challenging financial times, as well as rising food costs.
