The Church in Canada celebrates the National Day of Prayer in Solidarity with Indigenous Peoples on the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe Dec. 12, 2023. Please pray the prayer Pope Francis used at Lac Ste Anne during his pilgrimage to Canada in July 2022:
“Lord, as the people on the shores of the Sea of Galilee were not afraid to cry out to you with their needs, so we come to you, Lord … with whatever pain we bear within us. We bring to you our weariness and our struggles, the wounds of the violence suffered by Indigenous brothers and sisters. In this blessed place, where harmony and peace reign, we present to you the disharmony of our experiences, the terrible effects of colonization, the indelible pain of so many families, grandparents and children. Lord, help us to be healed of our wounds. We know, Lord, that this requires effort, care and concrete actions on our part; but we also know that we cannot do this alone. We rely on you and on the intercession of your mother and your grandmother. Yes, Lord, we entrust ourselves to the intercession of your mother and your grandmother, because mothers and grandmothers help to heal the wounds of our hearts.”

Le 12 décembre, fête de Notre-Dame de Guadalupe, patronne des Amériques, l’Église au Canada célèbre la Journée nationale de prière en solidarité avec les peuples autochtones. Cette année, nous prenons un moment pour nous rappeler le pèlerinage pénitentiel du Saint-Père au Canada en juillet 2022, et en particulier ses paroles de prière offertes au Lac Sainte-Anne:
«Seigneur, tout comme les gens sur les rivages de la mer de Galilée n’avaient pas peur de crier vers toi leurs besoins, ainsi nous venons, Seigneur… vers toi avec la douleur intérieure que nous portons. Nous t’apportons nos aridités et nos peines, nous t’apportons les traumatismes des violences subies par nos frères et sœurs autochtones. En ce lieu béni, où règnent l’harmonie et la paix, nous te présentons les disharmonies de notre histoire, les effets terribles de la colonisation, la douleur inextinguible de tant de familles, de grands-parents et d’enfants. Seigneur, aide-nous à guérir de nos blessures. Nous savons que cela demande un effort, un soin et des faits concrets de notre part; mais nous savons aussi, Seigneur, que tout seuls, nous ne pouvons rien faire. Nous nous confions à Toi et à l’intercession de ta mère et de ta grand-mère. Oui, Seigneur, nous nous confions à l’intercession de ta mère et de ta grand-mère, parce que les mères et les grands-mères aident à guérir les blessures du cœur.»
