Diocesan annual World Youth Day on Feast of Christ the King

By Bishop Mark Hagemoen's blog, Enriching faith

Diocesan World Youth Day will be marked on Christ the King Sunday in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon, including celebration of Mass with Bishop Mark Hagemoen at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 26 at the Cathedral of the Holy Family, in a celebration that will include testimonies from young adults who participated in the international World Youth Day held this summer in Portugal. Everyone is welcome.

The Mass will also be live-streamed at saskatoonmass.com starting 6:30 pm Nov. 26.

Testimony from WYD pilgrims will also be part of the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Masses on Christ the King Sunday, Nov. 26 at the Cathedral of the Holy Family, 123 Nelson Road, Saskatoon.

The theme of the Nov. 26 World Youth Day is “Rejoicing in Hope” (cf Romans 12:12), announced earlier this year by Pope Francis.

Background: Diocesan World Youth Days are observed annually in addition to the major intercontinental world-wide edition of World Youth Day that takes place every three or four years.

Since 2021, the celebration of World Youth Day at the diocesan level has been held on Christ the King Sunday (before that, it was held on Palm Sunday).

News and other information regarding the World Youth Days can be found on the website of the Dicastery for the Laity, the Family and Life: www.laityfamilylife.va.

Bishop Mark Hagemoen joined the faith community of St. James Parish in Wilkie, SK, Oct. 22, 2023 to celebrate the Eucharist and offer special prayers to officially install Fr. Rinesh Menambadath Chacko, VC, as pastor of the parishes at Wilkie, Handel, and Leipzig, SK.

The new pastor arrived in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon in July.

The installation prayers offer an opportunity to reflect prayerfully on the role of the pastor, highlighting the priest’s sacramental ministry through a series of prayers at different spots throughout the church building: the altar, the ambo, the tabernacle, the baptismal font, the entrance of the church, and so on.

Bishop Hagemoen will travel to instal other new pastors in parishes across the diocese in the weeks ahead, as his schedule permits (see schedule, below).

“This isn’t a required ritual, but it is something that is an option, and we have chosen to do that because of its simple but rich symbolism about the relationship of the pastor — the priest — with the people of God,” explains Bishop Hagemoen.
